"Studying Dusty Galaxies with Interferometers"

時間/地點: 2015-07-23 14:00 [S4-1013]

摘要:

Since the discovery of the first submillimeter galaxies with SCUBA, tremendous progress has been made in understanding the number density and physical nature of dusty high-z galaxies through various single-dish surveys. However, because of the confusion limit, a consequence of the low angular resolution of single-dish telescopes, we have not yet reached a large sample of L* galaxies of the dusty population, which are the typical members of the population that give rise to the bulk of the cosmic far-IR background. The low resolution of single-dish images also often leads to wrongly identified multi-wavelength counterparts. In this talk, I will present our studies using the SMA and VLA to identify bright dusty galaxies and to constrain the dust enshrouded star formation in optical and near-IR selected galaxy populations. I will also present our recent ALMA studies to directly detect faint dusty galaxies that correspond to L* galaxies in the far-IR luminosity functions.
