"The Keck OSIRIS Nearby AGN (KONA) Survey: HBLR and Non-HBLR Seyfert 2 Galaxies"

We present the first results of studying hidden broad-line region (HBLR) and non-HBLR Seyfert 2 galaxies from the KONA survey. The discovery of the non-HBLR Seyfert 2 galaxies challenge the traditional unification model, which proposed that all Seyfert 2 galaxies are intrinsically the same as Seyfert 1 galaxies. To further investigate the HBLR and non-HBLR Seyfert 2 galaxies, we take advantage of the KONA Survey data, which used the integral field unit OSIRIS plus adaptive optics with laser and natural guide stars, to probe down to scales of 5-30 parsecs. With these high resolution K-band data, we are able to investigate the two-dimensional distribution and kinematics of the molecular gas, ionized gas, and nuclear stars that are traced by H2 emission at 2.12 micron, Br-gamma, and CO bandheads at 2.3 micron, respectively. Our preliminary results show that the HBLR Seyfert 2 have broader Br-gamma line width than the non-HBLR ones do. The HBLR Seyfert2 galaxies also show compact Br-gamma emission, while the non-HBLR Seyfert 2 galaxies have more extended and diffuse gas morphology. Furthermore, the HBLR Seyfert 2 tend to have young stellar populations that is consistent with the previous results conducted by seeing limited data. The non-HBLR Seyfert 2 galaxies might be a new population of Seyfert galaxies, and this cannot be explained by the traditional unification model.
