Distinguished Professor Dept. of Earth, Planetary and Space Sciences UCLA, USA
David Jewitt
David Jewitt is interested in the primitive bodies of the Solar System, especially the comets. In all likelihood, these objects are remnants from the accretional processes by which the major planets grew. His hope is that the properties of the comets will throw light on the nature and evolution of the protoplanetary disk. This connects naturally with the general issue of planet formation, and with the existence of dust disks around young stars.
David likes color, texture and abstraction. His paintings use house paint, fabric acrylic, tile glue, clay, seeds and other tree parts, string, rope, wood and found objects, with canvas, wood, cardboard and paper as support. Very young children often stare at his paintings and try to touch them, which he sees as a great complement.
