內容：敘述宇宙太空中的現象，並且討論科學家如何應用目前所知道的知識加以解釋。對象包括地球、月球、各個行星、其衛星、恆星、它們的誕生、演化與死亡、星際介質、本銀河系、其他的星系，以及這些種種所構成的宇宙本身是如何來的，而又將如何演變。本課程分上、下兩學期。上學期介紹研究天文現象所需要的工具，然後逐個討論太陽系中的天體；下學期則探討太陽、恆星、星系，宇宙等，尺度由小而大。上課方式以講授、討論為主，輔以觀看錄影帶，及可能的參觀活動。每週的進度幾乎是課本的一章──也就是非常快──所以預習與複習很重要，也最好不要缺課，否則一回頭就是好幾百光年！
