摘要:

Molecular gas is an important building material for supermassive black holes and stars in the host galaxies of quasars. As revealed by the recent submillimeter observations of the host galaxies of the known high-redshift quasars, molecular gas constitutes up to 50% of their total masses. At the earlier evolutionary stages of quasar formation, the fraction of molecular gas could have been much higher. However, the young quasars are expected to be highly obscured by gas and dust that makes their discovery and study difficult. I will present our recent observations of the young quasars at redshifts z>7 with the Atacama Large Millimeter Array. Our results suggest that the total masses of the host galaxies of these quasars were entirely dominated by molecular gas distributed on scales of >10 kpc. Moreover, our observations revealed the large external reservoirs of molecular gas near these quasars which supports the merger scenario of quasar formation in the early universe.
