摘要:

Past studies have shown that some global galaxy properties are correlated with each other, in particular, the star-forming main sequence, which is a tight relation between the global star formation rate and stellar mass with a scatter of 0.3dex only. Despite that the star-forming main sequence has been widely used to constrain the galaxy evolution models, its physical origin, is not well understood. In this talk, I will introduce the ALMA-MaNGA QUEnching and STar formation (ALMaQUEST) survey, which we carried out recently to study galaxy properties at kpc scales. ALMaQUEST follows up 46 galaxies with ALMA CO(1-0) observation selected from the MaNGA integral field survey. It contains galaxies with a wide range of star formation activity, ranging from starburst, main-sequence, to those galaxies that are undergoing quenching. By combining the resolved gas and stellar populations, we establish the links among the gas mass, stellar mass, and star formation rate at kpc scales. I will then discuss their implications in understanding the origin of the global star-forming main sequence, as well as the interplay of gas and star formation.
