"A Spinning-Headache Problem: Using rotation period surveys to study the bulk density/ internal structure of various small solar system bodies"

摘要:

The bulk density/internal structure is a very important and yet less explored physical property of small solar system bodies (SSSBs). Using the unprecedented number of lightcurves collected from the high- cadence wide-field surveys, thousands of rotation periods of different SSSB populations were obtained. Not only is the task very challenging in lightcurve collection, asteroid discovery, and period analysis, the topic itself, using spin-rate limit as a proxy of SSSB bulk density/internal structure, is also a very interesting question. In this talk, I will show you how we measured the overall bulk densities of different SSSB populations using the spin-rate limit and how this property helps us understand the solar system formation.
