"Mapping the Universe with DESI"

時間/地點: 2022-12-02 14:00 [S4-1013]

摘要:

The Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) is an ambitious project, aiming to obtain about 40 million spectroscopic measurements of stars, galaxies and quasars in the next 5 years. It will produce the most-detailed 3D map of the Universe, containing an unparalleled amount of information which will not only transform our understanding of the nature of dark energy but also reveal novel insights on the formation and evolution of galaxies. In this talk, I will introduce the scientific goals, the survey design of the DESI project and the DESI Legacy Imaging Surveys which are crucial for the DESI target selections. I will describe some of my work utilizing (1) the imaging datasets to explore the astrophysics of galaxy evolution and (2) the early DESI spectroscopic dataset for validating the performance of the DESI survey. Finally, I will conclude by describing the current status of DESI and the timeline for the public data release.
