摘要:

Comet 289P/Blanpain is a 160-m sized tiny comet orbiting between Earth and Jupiter orbits. It was discovered in 1819 and had been lost for nearly two centuries, and re-discovered as an asteroidal appearance in 2003. 289P/Blanpain is a parent body of Phoenicids meteor shower, and small mass loss from the nucleus was detected. Considering both telescopic observations of comet itself and wide-field video observations of meteors, sporadic events of large mass loss due to break-up of the nucleus are needed to explain the current total stream mass. Current apparent brightness of 289P/Blanpain is about 1.5 mag brighter than the prediction, and it may be an indication of a recent shedding of surface material from the nucleus. Here, we propose to carry out time-series differential photometry of comet 289P/Blanpain to detect non-principal axis rotation induced by a hypothetical split or mass ejection. Low-resolution spectroscopic observation of 289P/Blanpain by 3.8-m Seimei Telescope of Kyoto Univ. is also proposed by us, and LOT observation is a part of campaign observations.
