Crowded stellar fields and strong dust extinction in regions like the Galactic plane and the Large Magellanic Cloud present significant challenges for photometric calibration and catalog cross-identification. I will present recent progress on calibrating CFHT u-band data using Pan-STARRS g, r bands, Gaia parallaxes, and 3D extinction maps, with a focus on mitigating crowding effects and achieving consistent photometry as well as the hurdles faced while doing so. I will also discuss cross-matching strategies across heterogeneous surveys and their implications for color accuracy. This work provides a foundation for upcoming large-scale surveys like LSST, which will face similar challenges across the southern hemisphere.
