摘要:

Over recent years, classical limits of scattering amplitudes have emerged as a powerful tool for deriving state-of-the-art results for gravitational wave observables from interacting binary compact objects. In this talk, I will explore the role of gravitational dressing operators in deriving radiative observables, such as the radiated waveform, momentum and angular momentum. The graviton dressing operator we consider is derived from the worldline formalism. A salient feature of the graviton dressing is its description in terms of a multiple soft (low-frequency) graviton expansion, which can be systematically derived from fluctuations about the asymptotic worldline trajectories of the scattered compact objects. Hence the resulting graviton dressing operator provides a generalization of the usual coherent state description for classical radiation. This framework enables the extraction of late-time limits of radiative observables, and we will discuss one of our main results in detail -- the nonlinear memory effect from the gravitational waveform. I will also discuss results from ongoing work, where we derive a more general double soft graviton dressing operator that recovers the known double soft graviton factor for scattering amplitudes, and provides a new result up to subleading order. I will conclude with an overview on how our approach could be used to investigate spin and self-force corrections in gravitational waves, as well as quantum aspects of black holes from their scattering.
