Recent observations reveal that cometary ice is highly diverse (A'Hearn 1995; Fink 2009; Cochran et al., 2012; Dello Russo et al., 2016; Bockelée-Morvan & Biver, 2017; Bair & Schleicher, 2025). However, the physical interpretation of this appearance is still under debate. Possible explanations include the thermal environment of the forming region, dynamical evolution and thermal exposure history, and other long-term effects. In this talk, I will briefly introduce our current understanding of the chemical composition of comets and try to establish a connection to my recent study, focusing on the short-term dynamical history (10.1098/rsta.2016.0252, 10.3847/PSJ/ae03b9).
